WEIGHT LOSS GUIDE
Using Mounjaro (tirzepatide)
How Mounjaro works, how to inject and store it, and how the dose steps up over time.
How Mounjaro works
Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, which mimics two natural gut hormones — GLP-1 and GIP. Together these help control blood sugar, slow how quickly food leaves your stomach, and reduce appetite, so you feel fuller for longer. Working on two hormones rather than one is what sets Mounjaro apart from semaglutide treatments.
Your dose schedule
Treatment starts at a low dose and steps up gradually under your prescriber’s guidance, spending at least a few weeks at each level. Never increase your dose without advice, and never take more than one dose a week. The strengths run 2.5 mg, 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, 12.5 mg and 15 mg.
Injecting Mounjaro
Inject once a week, on the same day, into the thigh, abdomen or upper arm — rotating the site each time to reduce irritation. It can be taken with or without food, at any time of day. Follow the steps in your patient information leaflet, and after injecting, check the dose counter has returned to zero.
Storing Mounjaro
- Keep refrigerated (2–8°C) before first use.
- Depending on the pen, it may be kept at room temperature for a limited period once in use — check your leaflet.
- Never freeze it; protect it from light.
